Summary: A fabulous machine!!! 2010-07-25
Comment: I am a somewhat accomplished sewer having only recently started sewing again after a professional career as an enlightened bureaucrat. I love this machine;have used it now for about nine months for a variety of projects. My only and I stress ONLY complaint is not with the machine but with the instruction manual that is provided. I ordered a second manual directly from Singer hoping that it would be better written and more comprehensive. I got the manual and it was just as sparse. I know that I am under utilizing this machines many, many fun features. So for the time being I just punch buttons and document when I've happened upon a decorative stitch I want to use more extensively. Amazon's price is the best I have seen and delivery was prompt after making the order. I think this machine is well suited for the whole spectrum of sewing capabilities. I have even recommended it to friends who like me wanted to start sewing again. You'll like it!

Comment: I have had my machine for 1.5 years and it has been in the shop more than out. Was told by several dealers that the Singer company is not what it was in our mother's day. Company in China bought Singer and is building low quality machines and relying on its reputation to sell it. When everyone catches on it will stop making the machine but by then will have made millions. Do NOT recommend the machine.

Summary: I love it 2010-06-20
Comment: I previously had a cheaper Singer model and hesitated to pay the price for this computerized model, but it is well worth it. Every time I use it I discover a new feature or ease of use. I would recommend this to anyone who sews, even the occasional sewer.

Summary: Super Pleased with this machine... 2010-06-12
Comment: To preface this review: this is the very first sewing machine I have ever owned and the very first one I have ever used!
Up until now, I have done all my sewing (including a quilt) by hand. Therefore, I did A LOT of research before finally settling on this particular sewing machine. I knew that I wanted something that would grow with me as my skills grew. And all of the reviews I read said that this would be the ideal machine for someone looking to learn and grow. So, I ordered it one day and waited patiently. And, I have to say that it was worth the wait.
So far, I have made an iPad cover for my husband, three sets of curtains, and done various mending on clothes and have been very impressed with the capacity and versatility of the machine. I haven't had any problems with jamming, or if I have, it's because I did something wrong and not the machine (once, I mis-threaded the bobbin, but then checked the user guide and it was a very easy fix). For never having used a machine before, I am very comfortable with this one and feel like I have a lot of control over my projects while still having a lot of help from the machine. It's sturdy and strong and never moves when I'm sewing.
I am very happy with this purchase and I think that, for the price and quality, you'd be hard-pressed to find a better deal.
