Singer Household Sewing Machines:

Amazon.com Review

Capable of 32 stitch functions and loaded with other options, this Singer machine is simple to operate and makes it possible for even novices to enjoy creative sewing. Some of the convenience features include a top drop-in bobbin that's easy to put in, easy to take out, and easy to see; a simple threading system with a dial for precisely adjusting needle-thread tension; an electronically controlled foot pedal for smoothly maintaining or changing speeds; touch-and-wind hand wheel declutching; push-button reverse sewing for neat seam-ends; a three-needle position selector for attaching zippers and top stitching; and a built-in four-step buttonholer for easy buttonhole sewing.

The machine is quiet and ruggedly built, includes a sewing light and a built-in carrying handle, provides horizontal thread delivery for better stitches, and has a slide-off extension table for free-arm sewing. Real excitement comes from the 32 stitch functions provided, including embroider, appliqué, satin, crescent, feather, and five zigzag variations. A complete accessory package (various presser feet, friction-free spool holders, transparent bobbins, and needles for sewing different fabrics) is included, and it stores onboard the machine, which weighs 20 pounds and measures 15-1/4 inches wide, 11-1/2 inches high, and 6-3/4 inches deep. Invaluable is Singer's illustrated, step-by-step instruction booklet covering everything from the basics to zipper sewing to pattern stitching to free-arm sewing to highly detailed buttonhole sewing--and much, much more. --Fred Brack

I thought I could trust a Singer. WRONG. I spend more time trying to unjam the machine then I spend actually sewing. There's always something wrong with it. I grew up sewing on my mom's ancient singer (one of those cute little black machines that only goes forward). That thing is probably 60 or 70 years old and still sews like a dream. I wish my mom would trade with me...

I've had this machine for over a year and have found nothing bad to say about it. I'm an avid quilter and have turned out many beautiful projects with this machine in the past year. I use this machine everyday and have had no problems with it that weren't associated with user error. I've recently upgraded to another machine with more stitches and functions and it's a Singer too! I've researched other higher priced machines and have found that Singer is well worth the money. Even though I have a new one I'll still be keeping this one to use. I'm very pleased with Singer.

4.0 out of 5 stars Singer 32 Stitch sewing Machine, August 17, 2003

I am a forty three year old woman who is new to sewing. My machine is wonderful. I approached this as a new person would, taking time to read the instructions because I had to learn how to use all of the functions. My machine works like a charm. It doesn't even make a lot of noise. The instruction book is well thought out and easy to follow. I would advise any new sewer to purchase this machine. In my estimation, the Singer name is still a good one. I plan to do all sorts of home decorating projects and I think this machine will be able to stand up to them.
