My wife needed a simple basic sewing machine to repair and make adjustments to our clothes. We decided on this model based on the low price and the Singer name. As we understand there are more Singer machines in service than all other brands together.
We found the DVD that came with the machine very helpful and between that and the owner's manual the setup was easy. Since then she is using it from time to time and, as it fulfills all our needs at an affordable price, we must give it a high rating. We would have hated to pay more for a sewing machine with more features that we were not going to use. This is a good reliable machine that fulfills our need for simplicity and ease of operation. 35 of 35 people found the following review helpful: By goodstuff (San Francisco) - See all my reviews This review is from: SINGER 2250 Tradition Basic 10-Stitch Sewing Machine (Misc.) This is my first sewing machine, the first time I've used one. I love it, and hate to see it's rating so low due to reports of bobbin jamming. None of the 3 complaints mentioned that they even attempted to adjust the upper or lower tension adjustments. My machine jammed up the first time I used it but I read the instructions and adjusted the tensions- problem solved. Adjusting the lower bobbin tension is a touchy feely operation, but not hard to do. From the instructions- "To test the bobbin thread tension, remove the bobbin case and bobbin and hold it by suspending it by the thread. Jerk it once or twice. If the tension is correct, the thread will unwind by about an inch or two. If the tension is too tight, it does not unwind at all. If the tension is too loose, it will drop too much. To adjust, turn the small screw on the side of the bobbin case." There is a screwdriver included to make this adjustment. It clamps the thread, so a thicker or thinner thread could mean an adjustment is...Read more 27 of 30 people found the following review helpful: By This review is from: SINGER 2250 Tradition Basic 10-Stitch Sewing Machine (Misc.) We got this sewing machine as a x-mas present and were very excited to begin sewing. It was great to start with...for like the first 6 hours. The DVD was helpful, and it had the basics for what you need to get started. Of course I found sewing to be extremely easy, so in the spirit of D.I.Y. I started sewing like a mad man.
Well...wouldn't you know that after a short while the bobbin kept jamming. As a child I never remember this happening to my mom, and when I called her with the problem she agreed. I took apart the whole assemble, lubed it up, cleaned it...worked for a bit and then jammed even worse. I've never heard of such a thing....this is a total bummer. I think I got a lemon, but regardless, we out grew this machine literally within hours. We've decided to return it and upgrade to the Brother computerized 60 stitch. We're very excited about it...Read more |
