I have worked with Janome (formerly know as New Home) machines for over 20 years. I think I have only seen one jam once! This machine I have owned for 5 years and it has been fabulous. I teach children's sewing lessons in my home, and this machine never jams, is super easy to use, and is great for ALL LEVELS OF SKILL! I have 4 of this model!
I love the speed governor for children, plus, it keeps me tidy too. The big draw for me with the kids is also the fact that the pre-set stitch buttons above the stitch diagram are so quick and easy. You don't have to worry about the particulars of a setting on a stitch, you just go right to it, be it zig zag or straight stitch or overcast, you jump right to it!
The automatic tension setting is another HUGE draw. This thing adjusts the tension by itself. I have rarely ever had to touch the tension dial, and then only for unique project purposes.

Love, love, love this machine!
It handles anything I throw at it! It will sew simple cotton to thick slippery oil cloth without missing a beat!
People warned me about buying a sewing machine online without "test driving" it first. Would I go back and test drive the Janome DC3050 before I bought it? Nope! Buying it sight unseen was a gamble that paid off!

I have had this machine for about two months and have pieced and free motion quilted a baby quilt, two lap quilts, and one queen and king sized quilts.
The stitch patterns are both easy to use and adjust as well as functional and look great.
I think the best thing about the machine is that it automatically adjusts the tension for you unless you want to change it manually (I have not had a reason to do this yet). I have worked with cottons, silk, flannel, and thick batted pieces with no thread tension issues with either a standard foot, walking foot, or darning foot and even different weight threads on top and in the bobbin case.
The speed control comes in handy when I need to go especially slow or fast, I can set it ahead of time. I also like the automatic locking stitch function, it saves a lot of time instead of starting, backing up, and restarting again.
