Tension/Bobbin Issues,
January 9, 2011 Ali (Madison, WI USA) - See all my reviews
I received the Janome 3125 when I first went off to college as a gift. Before that, I had used my mother's sewing machine to hem my jeans and pants since I am quite short. From the get go, we couldn't get the tension right, and it didn't have the power to sew through heavier jean materials. My mother had to take the entire machine apart and oil it to get it to work properly, and even then, it only lasted 2-3 projects before it was up to its antics again. On knit, stretchy fabric, I couldn't get the needle to pick up when using any zig-zag or stretch stitch unless I pulled the fabric tight. Of course, stretching the fabric out is the last thing I want to do! Yes, the machine is inexpensive, looks cute, and is a small size for traveling/cramped living, but you definitely get what you pay for.

I have a larger Janome machine but I needed a machine I could take to classes. I orered this machine online 3 years ago.It is small but mighty. I can get this machine to sew things better than the large machine that stays at home. I am considering buying a second one just as a back-up.....I have to disagree completely with the other review. I have been sewing since I was 10 years old, so I know a good machine when I see one.
